It's often a misconception about what is required to become a mountain guide. The title is held in an incredibly high regard with professionals in the industry but the public often misunderstands the rigerous process required to become a certified mountain guide.

Canada’s professional association for mountain guides, the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides, is recognized worldwide as a leader in safety, expertise and professionalism. ACMG Mountain Guides are recognized by the International Federation of Mountain Guides Association (IFMGA) and are thereby qualified to guide trips in mountain regions around the globe. ACMG guides undertake an arduous training regime, apprenticeship and series of examinations over the course of many years that breaks down over the three main alpine disciplines: rock climbing, mountaineering and backcountry skiing. A Mountain Guide works in all the disciplines and a Specialty Guide (Ski, Rock, Alpine, Top Roping, Hiking, Climbing Gym Instructor) specializes in one or two of the three disciplines. ACMG Guides are also highly trained in wilderness first-aid, rope and crevasse rescue systems, glacier travel, avalanche forecasting and expedition logistics, just to name a few of their many skills.
